Building Dedication Ceremony Honors Legacy of Abe Pierce III

Abe Edward Pierce III, recognized as the first African-American elected mayor of Monroe, dedicated his life to civil service and education, leaving an indelible mark on the community. His impact on local governance continued as he served 26 years on the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, ultimately becoming the first African-American president of the OPPJ.

Born and raised in Monroe, Pierce received his education in the Monroe City School System before earning his bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA.

Over a span of 40 years, Pierce served as an educator in various capacities within the Ouachita Parish School System. Notably, he made history as the first African-American to hold the position of assistant superintendent of the Ouachita Parish School Board.

Abe E. Pierce III's commitment extended beyond the realm of education. He actively participated in community organizations such as the Monroe-Ouachita branch of the NAACP, the Tri-District Laments Association, and served as the president of the Tri-District Boys and Girls Club.

The building dedication ceremony will serve as a tribute to Pierce's contributions to education, civil service, and the Monroe community. The event is open to the public, and attendees are invited to join in celebrating the enduring legacy of a remarkable leader.
