Mayor Jamie Mayo's Operation Y.E.S. (Youth Enrichment Strategies) is a program designed to help mold Monroe youth into becoming more involved in existing community service activities. This approach will help mold Monroe youth into becoming productive citizens who, upon high school or college graduation and beyond, will be more likely to become active positive role models within our community.
Inspired by Mayor Mayo's efforts, in 2003, a group of concerned community and business leaders decided to follow his lead and help in his support of our youth by establishing an initiative that would award college scholarships to deserving eligible students who reside in Monroe and have demonstrated a commitment to academics and community service.
The City of Monroe, in conjunction with Entergy and Community Outreach of Ouachita, will award a maximum of $6000 in scholarships to deserving local students in May 2011. This community-service based scholarship of at least $500 each will be awarded to a total of up to twelve eligible graduating high school seniors who live in the city of Monroe. These students attend Carroll, Neville, Wossman, St. Frederick, Ouachita Christian, and River Oaks High Schools. These students maintain a minimum 3.0 G.P.A., 17 ACT score, have performed acts of community service, and will attend a Louisiana college or university.
The support received from the players and sponsors of this year's 2011 tournament will help fund these scholarships and an awards banquet that will be held in the recipient's honor. The "Scholarship Scramble" Golf Tournament is our sole source of funding for these scholarships. We greatly appreciate your support with players and sponsorships as we raise funds for this worthy cause.
