39th Annual Birthday Salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

WHAT: Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council invite the entire community to attend the City of Monroe’s 39th Annual Birthday Salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

WHEN: 11:30 am until 1 pm Thursday, January 11, 2018

WHERE: W.L. “Jack” Howard Theater (Monroe Civic Center complex), 401 Lea Joyner Expressway, Monroe, LA.

THEME: In honor of the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s death, we are utilizing the theme issued by the King Center. Our 2018 theme is: “MLK50 Forward: Together We Win with Love for Humanity.”

SPEAKER: Our keynote speaker with be Grambling State University President Richard J. Gallot, Jr. We are also excited to have the celebrated Grambling State University Choir performing.

AWARDS: For the 12th consecutive year, we will also be making formal presentations to award winners in the following categories:

James Sharp, Jr. Justice Award
B.D. Robinson Unity Award
Lillie "Granny" Goins Community Service Award
Morris Henry Carroll Education Award
W.L. "Jack" Howard Public Service Award
Nashall "Shack" Harris Humanitarian Award
Martin Luther King, Jr. Trailblazer Award

Please join us to hear a dynamic speaker, wonderful choir, and to salute local award recipients in honor of Dr. King's legacy! Also, plan to stay for the traditional lunch to be served following the event. The entire community is invited. Please mark your calendar!
